In the tech world, a product is a single piece of software designed to solve a constraint set of problem(s). On the other hand, a platform is a set of definitions and protocols abstracted into single layer, that enable products to integrate seamlessly with each other. In the hardware world, an analogy of this would be the motherboard and the CPU, RAM, hard drive etc - where the motherboard would be the platform and the rest are products.
“Platformising your product” is the strategy taken by most founders after their product reaches maturity. This may be the path to go when the product you’ve build has more characteristics with a road than a car. However, if the latter is the case, you will probably be better off building a road rather than trying to make your car a road.
